Whether you’re a native like me or visiting for the first time, I guarantee that Gatlinburg will capture your heart and leave you with cherished memories. Let’s make this trip one for the books!
Gatlinburg:
Great Smoky Mountains National Park — As one of the most visited national parks in the US, this is a must-see and the reason why it’s at the top of the list. The breathtaking views, especially during fall when the leaves change, you just have to see for yourself!
Gatlinburg SkyLift Park — The skyLift was one of the attractions that was severely damaged during the wildfire of 2016. In turn, the SkyLift received a face lift including the brand new SkyBridge, the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America!
Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies — The aquarium is an awesome attraction showcasing a variety of marine life, including penguins, sharks, and interactive exhibits. You and your family can even have a sleepover with the sharks, how cool is that!?
Gatlinburg Space Needle — The space needle is an iconic observation tower providing panoramic views. This is a good alternative if you’re on a vacation budget. You’ll see the fantastic Mountain View’s right in the middle of the Gatlinburg strip!
Pigeon Forge:
Dollywood — If you don’t know about Dollywood, are you even alive!? Dollywood is just about as iconic as Disney world. You’ve got delicious food, you’ve got live entertainment, you’ve got thrilling rides, AND in the summer months there’s a water park! Dolly thought of it all and she is always adding new and exciting things to the park. You will not be disappointed at Dollywood, ever!
The Island in Pigeon Forge — The island is one of our favorite stops. You can do a little shopping, grab a bite to eat, and there is even an arcade! The Farris wheel is a staple at the island along with the dancing water fountain. It is truly a great place to shop, eat, and relax.
Titanic Museum Attraction — History buffs, this one’s for you! I’m not a big fan of history but Titanic history just hits different. This is an interactive museum and offers an immersive experience of the ship’s history(and includes some props from the Titanic movie!). I don’t want to spoil all the details but when you complete the museum you will be filled with new knowledge and emotion.
Dolly Parton’s Stampede — You simply cannot vacation in the Smokies without hitting up one of the many dinner shows! Dolly crosses her T’s and dots her I’s with this music filled, horse-riding stunt, dinner show. At the end of the show, you will leave happy and your belly will be full!
Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster — The alpine coaster is not something I’ve been able to try yet, but it is on the top of my to-do list! The alpine coaster will ride you through the mountain side, allowing a different perspective of the smokies. Rides are offered day and night! (Leave a note in the comments if you try the alpine coaster! I’d love to hear about your experience!)
As a child and even now, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge is equivalent to a brain reset for me. The scenery, the iconic attractions, and yummy food, I always feel refreshed when I return from a smokies getaway. It’s just something about that mountain air that puts you in a calm state of mind.
Whether you’re a native Tennessean or a visitor, I hope this guide of popular and iconic attractions will assist with your adventures in the mountains. So, get to packing!
